Let's make cosmetic testing on animals a thing of the past!

Let's make cosmetic testing on animals a thing of the past!

Name of Bill: Cruelty Free Cosmetics Act

Bill Number: SB 1203

Humane CosmeticsIt is 2023. We have robot vacuums, lab-grown meat, driverless cars…and archaic animal testing for products like shampoo and mascara. It is long past time for an overhaul to the cosmetics industry.

Cosmetics testing causes unnecessary pain and harm to animals, and alternative testing methods exist that are often cheaper and more accurate predictors for how cosmetics and their ingredients will affect humans. This reality has led eleven states to enact laws to end the sale of cosmetics that were produced using animal testing.

In Arizona, SB 1203, the Humane Cosmetics Act, would ban, with some exceptions, the sale of cosmetics that have been developed using animal testing. This is common sense legislation, with 83% of Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 80% of independents supporting a federal ban on animal-tested cosmetics.

Please support SB 1203, the Humane Cosmetics Act

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to ask for your support of SB 1203, the Humane Cosmetics Act, to end the sale of cosmetics that are developed using animal testing. Safe and reliable non-animal safety tests have existed for years, and hundreds of brands already sell cosmetics that are cruelty free.

If you are worried that this legislation is anti-business, I assure you that it isn't. The Federal Humane Cosmetics Act, which was re-introduced in Congress last year with the similar purpose of ending animal testing for cosmetics, was supported by the Personal Care Products Council, a trade organization representing 90% of the U.S. cosmetics industry. That federal bill, which we hope will be reintroduced this year, has also been endorsed by more than 400 individual companies, including Unilever and Proctor & Gamble.

Another important point for consideration is that the cosmetics industry already relies heavily on more predictive, non-animal testing methods to evaluate product safety, demonstrating that an end to the use of animals will not negatively impact human health.

Supporting SB 1203 is also smart legislating: 83% of Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 80% of independents support a federal ban on animal-tested cosmetics, making support for this issue a strong bi-partisan decision.

Please support SB 1203 to bring cosmetic safety testing into the 21st century.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
