Product Testing on Animals Needs to Stop!

Product Testing on Animals Needs to Stop!

Name of Bill: Use of animals in product testing

Bill Number: H. 850 and S. 1424

Humane CosmeticsIt is 2023. We have robot vacuums, lab-grown meat, driverless cars…and archaic animal testing for common products. It is long past time for an overhaul to the product testing industry.

Modern century science has rapidly developed testing methods that have rendered animal testing irrelevant. These new methods, which include human cell-based tests and advanced computer models, are faster, cheaper and better predictors of a human response compared to animal tests. Despite these advancements, product manufacturers and contract testing facilities continue to rely on irrelevant animal testing.

In Massachusetts, H.850 and S.1424 would prohibit product manufacturers and contract testing facilities from using animal testing when a validated non-animal test method exists. This legislation will help ensure that products are tested using superior, human-relevant testing strategies as soon as they have been approved for use.

Please support H.850/S.1424 to promote human-relevant testing methods

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing as a constituent to ask for your support of H.850/S.1424, relative to animals in product testing, to push product manufacturers to use validated non-animal testing methods whenever possible, rather than continue to rely on unpredictable and cruel animal testing.

Compared to animal tests, human-relevant test methods, such as human cell-based models and computer models, are faster, cheaper and better predictors of the human response. The use of human-relevant testing will spare thousands of animal lives per year while simultaneously providing better information on how different chemicals and formulas effect humans. Despite these truths, many product testing facilities continue to use animal tests.

H.850/S.1424 will require that product manufacturers and contract testing facilities take advantage of human-based testing methods in all scenarios for which they have been approved for use. Please support these bills to bring product safety testing into the 21st century.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
