NAVS has been working on a targeted, state-based campaign to support legislation that requires laboratories that use dogs and cats for research to adopt out healthy animals when they have been retired from research, allowing them the chance at loving, forever homes after leaving the laboratory.

Today, we received some great news: the Illinois Research Dogs and Cats Adoption Act has passed!

This victory was won thanks in part to advocates like you, who are willing to speak up on behalf of the animals whose lives will now be saved as a direct result of this legislation. Know that actions like yours will now allow cats and dogs throughout the state of Illinois the opportunity to know life outside of their cages.

We are also sharing this rewarding news with advocates who took action to introduce and pass similar legislation in their home state but did not enjoy the same success as Illinois did.  Do not lose hope! We fought through years of challenges and setbacks in Illinois, but never gave up. With Governor Rauner’s signature, this will be the law of the land in Illinois.

As we celebrate this win together, we also ask that you join us in committing to the long-term fight to end the wasteful, cruel practice of animal experimentation for good.  Can we count on you to help continue legislative animal advocacy, while working toward the larger mission to end animal testing?

On behalf of the animals, thank you again for your advocacy and support.
