Legislation that would end the manufacture of products tested on animals in Illinois has been introduced in the state legislature—and it needs your help right now to progress!

SB 241 will be heard by the Senate Agriculture Committee on Thursday, February 21 at 8:00 a.m. in room Capitol 409, Springfield.

This legislation follows the precedent set by states like California, New York and others, which have passed similar legislation that prohibits manufacturers from using animal test methods to test cosmetics and household products if an alternative test method is available.

While the fight to pass the federal Humane Cosmetics Act continues, these state-level bills are making big strides toward making our country cruelty-free—and Illinois could be the next state to take a stand for animals.

You can show your support for a cruelty-free Illinois—but time is running out!

There are a number of ways you can help:

  • Testify in person at the hearing in support of humane cosmetics by creating a witness slip, specifying that you wish to present oral testimony by Wednesday, February 20—the day before the Senate hearing.
  • Contact your legislators.
  • Provide written testimony by creating a witness slip and including your written statement supporting this bill. This testimony must also be submitted no later than Wednesday, February 20.
  • Provide support by creating a witness slip, selecting “Proponent” and checking the box for “Record of Appearance Only.”
  • Share this message with friends and family and ask them to take action as well.

The deadline to make a difference in Illinois is quickly approaching. Thank you for your urgent action to help get this legislation passed into law.
